Welcome to the Harris Central Appraisal District. My goal is to give you the best experience possible whenever and however you contact us.
I want you to understand your rights as a property owner and our responsibilities within the Texas property tax system.
It is your right to protest your property value if you do not think it is correct. However, you must do this by May 15 or within 30 days of receiving your property value notice.
Our two main responsibilities are to assess property at its full market value every year and to administer exemptions. We work diligently to accurately appraise properties fairly and equitably. It is also important for you to know it is your responsibility to apply for an exemption, which will exclude part of your property from taxation.
Your property taxes fund our public education system and other community services, such as fire and police protection, roads, libraries and parks, among others.
There is a lot of information available on our web site. In addition to maps, forms and other resources, we have short videos that explain specific topics such as our iFile and iSettle programs or the role of the Appraisal Review Board. We also provide property tax workshops to community groups and civic associations throughout Harris County.
Everyone at the district is dedicated to providing you top-notch service. You should always leave here feeling as if you have been heard, even if we can’t always give you the answer you were looking for.
If there is anything we can do to improve, I look forward to hearing from you.
